The Making of a Fairy Crown
Some projects begin with a plan. Others begin with a six-year-old, a pile of flowers and the firm belief that subtlety is for other people.
This crown was made for Trixie’s enchanted forest birthday, using flowers from Petershams, plenty of greenery and the sort of optimistic construction process that usually involves me saying, “It’ll be fine,” while holding something together with wire.
There’s something I love about making things for children that are completely unnecessary in the best possible way. A flower crown doesn’t solve a problem. It doesn’t make life more efficient. It just makes an ordinary afternoon feel a little more magical.
And honestly, I think we need more of that.
A few flowers. A little wire. A very determined small person.
Sometimes that’s enough.
